Joni Sancken, MDiv ’04, is associate professor of homiletics at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She is interested in theological and contextual issues in preaching. She is the author of Stumbling Over the Cross: Preaching the Cross and Resurrection Today (Cascade, 2016) and Words that Heal: Preaching Hope to Wounded Souls (Abingdon, 2019). She is co-author of the book Getting to God: Preaching Good News in a Troubled World (Abingdon, 2020).
Sancken is an ordained pastor in Mennonite Church USA and served congregations in Indiana and Pennsylvania. She lives in Oakwood, Ohio, with her PC(USA) pastor husband (and fellow Princeton Seminary alum) Steve Schumm and children Maggie and Theodore.
